Sermon notes · Pastor Philip Ozigbo

Discipleship and Transformation

From Knowledge to Kingdom Lifestyle

This teaching continued the exploration of Christian discipleship and spiritual growth, emphasizing that discipleship involves both what we know and how we live.

A disciple is formed through consistent instruction, kingdom culture and active participation in the community of faith.

01

The Early Church Model

Acts 11 describes Barnabas and Paul teaching believers in Antioch for an extended period. Their teaching produced visible transformation, and the disciples were eventually identified as Christians because the character of Christ could be seen in their lives.

This demonstrates an important principle: discipleship should produce visible fruit.

Scripture

Acts 11:19–26

In Antioch, the disciples were first called Christians.

02

The Fruit of Spiritual Growth

The fruit of the Spirit provides a practical picture of transformation.

Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control should increasingly characterize the believer.

Discipleship is therefore not simply the accumulation of information. It is the formation of character.

03

The Role of the Church

The church has an important role in discipleship through teaching, pastoral leadership, fellowship and spiritual formation.

The foundational doctrines of the faith—including repentance, faith, baptism, laying on of hands, resurrection and eternal judgment—provide a foundation upon which believers can continue to grow.

Discipleship is not simply the accumulation of information. It is the formation of character.

04

Living With Hope

The resurrection of Jesus provides believers with a living hope and assurance of eternal inheritance.

Understanding resurrection and eternal judgment should shape the way believers live today, encouraging holiness, readiness and commitment to Christ.

The teaching concluded with a call to become effective disciples, ambassadors and witnesses of Jesus.
